You can push the tag through the slot on the opposite end of the tag. You don't have to undo the hog ring.

I love this country. Watching a man who devotes himself to his family get excited about a key storage box, gives me hope. Reminds me that we are simple creatures.

Personally I like to colour code my keys so I only have to look through a couple of keys for the one I want, maybe yellow for cat, red for other machines, white for vehicles, blue for house / shed / storage lock ups etc.

You should have a few carabiners in there with the keys since they are all singles, so that if you need a few of them you can stick them on the carabiner and not loose any.

Most definitely; videos like this are great. The big projects are always fun, but videos like this are so helpful because the day-to-day is what we deal with most, so I always appreciate these "simplify/consolidate" videos. While I may not always have the same problem, it gets me thinking about similar issues in my day-to-day life.

So just to throw this out there, you can sometimes find old key boxes from the army. Typically made of heavy gauge steel, and cheep. Scrap yards seem to accumulate these. I have rehabbed several of these over the years and they last forever. Also they make brass round tags you can stamp for labeling the keys. I promise the label never wears off. I love your videos man! Looking forward to more.

Dude, I love your content. I never got my red card but deployed as a city firefighter to a wildfire one time… Mad respect.

I love this type of video! I always tell myself, if I could just turn on my camera and film what I do daily... Id have a bunch of content ready made! I hope to see more like this! What a score on the key box as well!

It also helps to label your key cabinet so you always know which keys are missing and where to return them.

If you ever have to remake a label, consider laminating or clear taping them. I could see your keys getting wet and the sharpie running or wrecking the label.

I have to be clean and organized. Especially with the shop and tools. I like to see you discover things like this. It’s helpful for people like me too. Good find!

Doing a key box was a project I wanted to do and finally did one this year. I went with a 200 key box from Amazon. It included numbered plastic tags. I’m getting close to having it full.

Thanks for all the great tips. I like the model number label idea. One of my favorite tips is writing oil drain plug size under the hood.

I have the same issue with all the keys. Duplicates for employees and I’ve tried keying all my buildings the same. Equipment and vehicles are a different story. I built a wooden key rack with hand forged nail hooks. I love your content Cody and I always find myself looking for you next video!!!
